Purpose
Evaluation of radioembolism with Ittrium (Y90) in patients with liver meths, not responsive to chemotherapy. Material and methods
In the last 11 months we treated 29 patients with liver mets from: colon neoplasm (18), breast (8), stomach (1), esophagus (1) and pancreas (1). Patients underwent to a preliminary abdominal TC, body PET, hepatic angiography followed by SPECT with marked albumin (Tc 99). Results
In all cases we obtained a reduction and/or a normalization of tumor markers in a period between 4 and 8 weeks. PET showed a partial and/or total remission of liver methastases. A patient with bilirubin levels of 1.7 mg died for hepatic insufficiency, 30 days after treatment. Two patients with hepatic involvement for above 60% had died during follow-up (4-6 months). A patient underwent a second treatment because of the appearance of new liver localizations. Conclusion
Prelimiminary data confirm RE with Y90 is a promising treatment (clinical and imaging data). A wider casuistry will provide more information about desease-free interval and survival.
